The goal was to create a set of support posts for a deck that had a series of related designs that made a

pairing of Fox and Raven Posts including the Coast of Arms design I had made previously.

I began with sketches for the central Fox and Raven images that were made to be styled like the Northwest

Native art as found on totem poles. I wanted it to seem as if the two were calling out at each other across

the posts.

Measuring the available space showed I could fit in 9 images framed in squares before the fitting for the

deck connections would begin to obscure the wood. I planned the two Fox and Raven heads as the center

and decided to put a spiral circle design between each other element which would be given a 90 degree

turn from to the next on the bottom half, and then mirrored to the top half so no two from any one post side

were identical.

For the top and bottom spaces I used the Coat of Arms design modified for wood engraving.

For the remaining two spaces I quickly drew up a pair of fox and raven silhouettes that conveyed a direction

of motion that, when viewed from the door angle, would create a circle of motion connecting them to the

circle designs.

I created the vector lines for the designs and imported them to Fusion 360 where both designs were made

into 3D models and machine pathed for a CNC router. After using the CNC router on all 4 posts, they were

stained and put in place as deck supports.
